Ambassador Huda Ali Shareef, the Permanent Representative (PR) of the Republic of Maldives to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), spoke at the high-level opening of the 20th Policy Consultation Forum of the Seoul Initiative Network on Green Growth (SINGG) held in Bangkok, Thailand, on 8 September 2025. The high-level opening marked 20 years of SINGG and 10 years since the Paris Agreement, under the theme “Reflecting on Progress – 10 Years of the Paris Agreement and 20 Years of SINGG.”
During the opening, Ambassador Huda Ali Shareef reaffirmed the Government of Maldives’ strong commitment to regional cooperation and multilateral engagement. She highlighted the Maldives’ continued vulnerability to the impacts of climate change while emphasizing the nation’s proactive efforts to transform challenges into opportunities through ambitious climate policies, renewable energy targets, and climate-resilient urban projects such as Hulhumalé and the Ras Male’ City Project. Ambassador Huda underlined that the Maldives’ vision for resilience and innovation is closely aligned with the goals of SINGG and the Paris Agreement.
She further stressed that achieving these goals will depend on strengthened international support, particularly in areas of climate finance, technology transfer, and capacity-building. She called on the international community to scale up ambition and action to protect vulnerable nations like the Maldives and to secure a sustainable and resilient future for all.
Ambassador Huda Ali Shareef was accompanied at the opening by First Secretary Ms. Aishath Almas and Second Secretary Ms. Siyana Shiyam of the Embassy of the Republic of Maldives to the Kingdom of Thailand.
